About Us
Goose Island Farm is a 500 acre potato and dairy farm located in Argyle, NY that has been in the McKernon family for generations. Chris and Clifford Jr. McKernon, two fourth-generation farmer brothers are continuing in the tradition of their great-grandfather John McKernon, who immigrated to New York from Ireland more than 150 years ago.
Planting, cultivating, harvesting, storing, washing, packaging, and distributing of round white potatoes (Eva, Reba & Superior varieties) and fingerling potatoes (Austrian Crescent Red & White varieties) is all done by Goose Island Farm.
Potatoes, sold locally as "Goose Island Potatoes", may be purchased at Hannaford Supermarkets or directly through the farm.
A Potato U-Pick is held on the farm in the fall.
Goose Island Farm is USDA GAP certified (good agricultural practices), a Pride of New York member, and a member of Cabot & Agri-Mark cooperative.
Goose Island Farm has approximately 200 Dairy Holsteins. Approximately 100 year round milk cows and 100 replacements. Dairy milk goes to Cabot & Agri-Mark dairy products.
We attend the Washington County Fair every August, both as an exhibitor showing a select few Holsteins and as a supplier of potatoes to vendors for french fries & chicken dinners.
